“ We travel for romance, we travel for architecture, and we travel to be lost.”
– Ray Bradbury

American author and screenwriter Ray Bradbury wrote a great deal, in a number of genres. While he is best known for the dystopian novel Fahrenheit 451, one of our favorites is a short story called The Kilimanjaro Device. Originally published in a 1965 issue of Life Magazine, and later in the anthology I Sing the Body Electric, the story revolves around a traveler in search of Ernest Hemingway, in a time traveling truck! But we digress.

The great thing about a good story is that you can get lost in the pages. Similarly, when we travel, we tend to get lost, both in time and space. We love how time stands still while snorkeling on a reef, or exploring the depths of museums and galleries. And, of course, we discover some of the best places when we are physically lost, wandering foreign streets looking for the familiar.

We do travel for the romance, and for the architecture, and even to be lost in the world. Why do you travel? Let us know in the comments.

  1. I agree! Great book and great travel can get us lost in a good way. But like they said, not all who wanders are lost. I travel for hiking and great views. #weekendwanderlust

    • Hi Ceferina – I would say hiking, and the awesome views that go with it, is a great way to get lost in the natural wonders all around us. Not actually lost, but to lose that sense of time and pressure you might feel in the work-a-day “real world.” We love that kind of being “lost”! Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment – much appreciated!
