Select frequent fliers are receiving an intriguing offer: Double your base miles earned on every flight for a year. The catch? About $60.It’s called AAdvantage Tailwind, and here’s how it works: For a one-time fee of $59.99, members of American Airlines’ loyalty program can subscribe to the program. Then, American will double the redeemable miles on every eligible domestic flight for one year. Members will only earn those double miles on flights that are marketed by American Airlines and operated by American or its codeshare partners. However, you will not earn double miles on flights that are marketed and owned by those same partners, meaning you must book through American, not, for example, British Airways. Elite bonus miles, award miles, and miles from credit card spend, AAdvantage Shopping, and Simply Miles will not be doubled. Naturally, these bonus miles will not count toward elite-status qualification or AAdvantage Million Miler status. That would just be too easy. You must subscribe by February 12, and only flights flown after you register are eligible. If you’ve already booked flights for later in the year, they will count for the promotion. Also, this is an exclusive targeted offer, and is non-transferrable; you must receive the offer directly from American Airlines. This all begs the question: Is it worth $60? The answer, of course, is: It depends. We favor the monthly valuations by The Points Guy, which currently values American miles at 1.4-cents each. So, if the cost of a promotion is more than that, we usually pass. Purchasing mileage boosters, for example, often equates to a cost of 3-cents/mile or more. It will be hard to get value out of those miles, so we pass unless we need just a few to make it to a milestone redemption. At 1.4-cents/mile, you would need to earn about 4,300 bonus miles to break even. Earning miles at a rate of five miles per dollar spent on base fares, that works out to spending $860 on domestic air fare in the next year. So if you see yourself booking those flights – about four flights with average fares of $215 or more – you will at least break even. If you plan to be in the air more than that: A) we’re a little jealous; and B) you should come out ahead. For the right fliers, this is a good opportunity to pad your award balance. As always, look before you leap. $60 buys a decent dinner out, so don’t waste it on a promotion that won’t give you at least that much value. ... See MoreSee Less

An airplane that's as clean as a hospital? That's the story from United Airlines, now APEX Health & Safety Diamond Certified. They're the only U.S. based airline to be certified as "hospital-grade clean," thanks to their new cleaning routine developed with Clorox and the Cleveland Clinic. But they're not alone. It may be post-Christmas, but the Holiday Season g It may be post-Christmas, but the Holiday Season goes on! We took a pre-New Year drive to the town of Roanoke, "The Unique Dining Capital of Texas!" While Mother Nature threatens to rain all over DFW's New Year's Eve celebrations, she sure made Roanoke's Christmas declorations shine!

So many people decided to put up holiday decorations early as a cheery rebuttal to the year that was 2020.We're hoping everyone leaves them up for a glittering beginning to 2021! Which brings us to this question: How long is too long to leave the lights up? THIS year, we're thinking St. Valentine's Day, at least.

Like many others, our holidays have been very different this year, with only a few of us at "home," some across town, and others across the globe! We have officially celebrated our first Zoom-mas! 😆 What hasn't changed is the importance of friends and family - in fact, maybe more important than ever! Our hope is that you have been able to celebrate with those important to you, whether virtually or in person.

Just like that, we're enjoying a Mexican Hot Chocolate #Mocha #Latte! We love this #coffee hack because it reminds us of Cafe Oaxaca that we loved in #Mexico. Also reminds us of the mocha we had at @choco_latte.cafe in Bar Harbor. Plus, it's super easy, which is important when you're working on that first cup of the day. ☕

What's your favorite coffee hack that reminds you of someplace in your travels?

This is the end of America. #NotMetaphorical 🤣 This is the end of America. #NotMetaphorical 🤣

The other day, we posted a photo of Portland Head Light, which was the first lighthouse in Maine. You could say this one is the last.

This is the West Quoddy Head Light in Lubec, Maine. It is literally at the end of America, as the easternmost point in the contiguous United States. The original lighthouse was built here in 1808, replaced by this red and white striped beauty in 1858, to guide ships through the Quoddy Narrows. The Keeper's House attached to it is now a small visitor's center and museum, but was closed by the Pandemic during our visit. 🙁 However, the Quoddy Head State Park remains open, with about 5 miles of hiking trails.

Fun Fact #1: This was the first lighthouse to have a fog bell (still on display) due to the area's frequent and dense fog. Right on que, fog and choppy seas developed as we arrived.

Fun Fact #2: this lighthouse is featured on a 25c stamp issued by the U.S. Post Office in 1990!

Have you been to this end of America?

When in Rome do as the Romans. When in #Maine, tak When in Rome do as the Romans. When in #Maine, take pictures of lighthouses!

In this case, the historic Portland Head Lighthouse, seen from the cliff walk in Fort Williams Park. How historic? It was the first lighthouse commissioned by George Washington, back in 1787, and it's been guarding Portland Harbor since 1791. That makes it the oldest lighthouse in Maine!

Today, it's automated, along with the foghorn, and run by the U.S. Coast Guard. The keeper's house is now an award-winning museum, with a quaint, seasonal gift shop right next door. It is an easy drive from downtown Portland to the beautiful town of Elizabeth, where the 90-acre park offers picnicking, sports fields, hiking and walking trails among the remnants of bunkers, and along the beautiful Rocky Coast.

But it's also right along the Beech Cliff & Canada Cliffs Loop - a moderate 2-mile hike that All Trails gives 4.5/5 stars! Obviously, it doesn't get much better than this! We hear the #fallcolors were even more stunning just after our visit. Naturally. 🤦 Doesn't matter much - this is year round gorgeous!! Have you been?

Honest question: Could you #WorkFromParadise? A Honest question: Could you #WorkFromParadise?

A lot of people have realized that #WorkFromHome really means they can work from anywhere. But, as I contemplated my "office" on this beautiful Maine morning, my productivity never left the starting line. I honestly don't know how anybody gets work done with views like this. Not complaining, mind you, I just think it's good to know your weaknesses. Mine are apparently coffee, and balconies with sea views. 😍 This view from our room is at the Bar Harbor Inn & Spa. The word "spoiled" comes to mind. 🤣

LOBSTAH!!! This trip to beautiful Maine was really LOBSTAH!!! This trip to beautiful Maine was really a just a ruse to fill up on New England's bounty of delicious lobsters! First and last stop as we travel between Portland and Bar Harbor is Sprague's Lobster on Highway 1 (aka: Main Street) in Wiscasset. Its adorable picnic-meets-food-truck setting is right on the Sheepscot River. Along with the lobster shack, there are shops selling ice cream, pottery, t-shirts, and Maine jams and syrup. Oh, and the Chamber of Commerce is here. (Seriously, how do they get anything done with these views and temptations?) After reading all the 4+ star reviews, we had to stop, and we were not disappointed! (Even in the rain!) I mean... look at that lobster roll! We will be back, Sprague's. Thank you for the yummy chowder & cakes, too. #stuffed!
