The day before leaving on a trip is always an exciting one. Oh sure, it’s a busy one, too! Bags to pack, papers to organize, last minute details (did anybody do a “mail hold”?), and endless lists of things not to be forgotten. (Generally followed by a hasty list on the plane of things that were forgotten.) Today is the day before we leave for a week in Miami Beach. Ah, Florida, we love your sunshine and warm beaches. And there is so much we love about Miami Beach, too! Art Deco “art-itecture”, Cuban sandwiches, Lincoln Road, colorful characters, the boardwalk, the beach, late night sushi…so much to love.
This trip will be a little different for us, as we’ll be there primarily to attend a lifestyle event called Life@50+, a national AARP event, at the Miami Beach Convention Center. While there will be a lot of things of interest to the 50+ crowd which we all should pay attention to, such as health and money, we signed up specifically for the Tech and Travel tracks. Dr. Michio Kaku, author of The Future of the Mind will be speaking on the mysteries of the human brain, and we can’t wait to meet him. Our favorite travelling gal pal, Samantha Brown is AARP’s Travel Ambassador, and she’ll have a session on Family Travel. (We promise, we are not stalking her. It’s just coincidence that we keep finding ourselves at the same events. Honest, it is.) And the sprinkles on the top of our Miami Beach sundae? That would be this year’s keynoter, Robin Roberts of Good Morning America. She is solid super-hero material in our books, and we can’t wait to meet her, either.
While there, we’ll be staying at the Marriott Hotel Cadillac, so you can look forward to a review of the hotel afterwards, along with highlights from Miami Beach and Life@50+. We kind of like exploring hotels, and there are three hot new properties in Miami Beach we are hoping to get a peek at, if time allows: the new Hyatt Centric, Marriott’s AC Miami Beach, and the Royal Palm South Beach, the anchor of Starwood’s new Tribute Portfolio. If you are also attending Life@50+, or just happen to be in Miami Beach this week, drop us a line: You can leave a comment here or on Facebook, Tweet us, or email us at [email protected], and we’ll do our best to meet up.
