“A vacation is what you take when you can no longer take what you’ve been taking!”
– Earl Wilson
It sounds like something Groucho Marx would say, but this gem among travel quotes comes from American journalist and author Earl Wilson.
Wilson rose to fame as a gossip columnist for the New York Post in the golden age of Broadway. He was known to work 18-hour days, six days a week. Those long days turned into late nights at Broadway hot spots, usually accompanied by someone readers knew as B.W., his Beautiful Wife. It was a tough job, but somebody had to do it!
Besides the column Last Night with Earl Wilson, he penned a few books about his glamorous pals. He drew back the curtains in Show Business Laid Bare, and his unauthorized Frank Sinatra biography revealed JFK’s extramarital affairs. Midnight Earl passed away in 1987 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
About the photo
One of our favorite vacation days was spent on the leeward side of Ambergris Caye off the coast of Belize. We joined the tour company Seaduced by Belize aboard their houseboat SEAs d Day for a full day of water fun. Photo by TravelLatte.
