Second grade, Mrs. Gardner’s class. Julie, who lives across the street, is showing us her giant stuffed bear, and telling us how – against all odds – she managed to win it at the carnival. We were insanely jealous, and oddly proud to know someone who bested the carnies. Our young minds were instilled with the misguided notion that you need to have things to show. But for Julie’s thrilling tale of luck and skill, we might never have learned that you also need stories to tell.

The story, it turns out, is the important part. Somehow, it’s just not acceptable, apparently, to bring your giant stuffed bear to the office dinner party. The power of story telling isn’t just for movie stars and authors. From intimate conversations to social settings, family rooms to board rooms, your ability to regale friends and family with stories will always set you apart. Let it be your very own super power.

And experience, that’s the jet fuel for flights of fancy! As exhilarating as it was, nabbing the coveted giant bear shouldn’t be the only story in your repertoire. Stories of mayhem and adventure, or patience and perseverance, or the grandeur of the sights you’ve seen – those are the experiences we are eager to hear. Even without the props – or the 120-slide PowerPoint deck – we will hang on every word far longer than we’d admire your lovely fine china.

Stuff is fine, but it’s not the … stuff … of legends. Don’t collect things.

It’s a very accessible, beautiful natural attraction near Plattsburgh, with several trails ranging from easy to moderately-difficult, plus rafting and kayaking, and an adventure course. It is a great location for family-friendly adventure, with camping nearby; the perfect experience for stories to tell!
