Star Wars Takes Flight on Three New Planes

Star Wars Takes Flight – Literally – on Three New Planes

The Force is strong with All Nippon Airways.

The Japanese air carrier has announced a trio of Star Wars themed jets will take to the sky in coming months, with new livery and in-flight entertainment from the Lucasfilm empire. The planes will feature R2D2 and BB-8, a new character from the upcoming film, Star Wars: the Force Awakens.

R2D2 will be the first in the air, aboard a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The aircraft will fly international routes, beginning with service between Tokyo and Vancouver on October 18, 2015.

Next to launch will be the Star Wars jet, a Boeing 767-300 featuring the two droids. To see it, you’ll have to be in Japan as it will fly domestic routes starting in November. BB-8’s 777-300ER will follow on international routes beginning in March 2016.

On board the planes, custom Star Wars service items, will include headrest covers, napkins, and cups. For fans, this certainly ups the ante on perks ANA is known for, like menus by Michelin-starred chefs and sommelier-curated wine lists. While you’re in the air, you can binge-watch all the Star Wars you can fit in your flight. ANA will be the first to feature Star Wars movies – all six episodes! – as part of the in-flight entertainment. In fact, it will be the first time any Star Wars movie has been shown in flight; the closest they’ve come to a galaxy far, far away.
