#Travel140: Three quick tips for flying with wine!

#Travel140 #TravelTip: This week, we have three quick tips for flying with wine!

If you travel with – or for – wine often, here are three quick tips to make your flights more enjoyable…for the wine:

  • Protect It Well Grab a Jet Bag, plastic bag made to hold a bottle of wine while you travel. They offer two-way protection: padded to protect the bottle, and sealable to protect your clothes in case of breakage. There are several brands, and they usually cost $5 to $8 each. You can find them online and at some wine retailers. (Our Amazon link on the right is for our personal favorite.)
  • Get a Good Case Invest in hard-case luggage. They are more sturdy and can help protect your wine (and clothes, shoes, souvenirs) from the occasional bump, drop and toss.
  • Pack It Well Even with a hard suitcase and a Jet Bag, you should pack your bottles in the middle of your suitcase, surrounded by soft, cozy clothing. That will add some much-needed insulation. (You’ve seen what baggage handlers do with your bags, right?)

Bonus Tip #1: If you’re flying internationally, be sure you know and obey the customs rules for each country you enter/exit. The last thing you want to happen to that lovely bottle of wine is to have it end up on someone else’s table!

Bonus Tip #2: Jet Bag is great for anything in a bottle – perfume, for example – and anything else that needs a little padding, like breakable souvenirs.

Have you tried these tips? We’d love to hear how it worked for you. You can also leave a comment with your favorite tips, and we’ll re-post the best of ’em. (Be sure to include your Twitter handle and a link to your blog, if you have one!) Or click here for more #Travel140!
