How many times did your mother tell you: Dress nicely when you go to the airport so you might get an upgrade? Okay, maybe that’s not exactly what mom said, but the Dress to Impress tactic works, whether you’re looking for love, looking for a job, or looking for an upgrade.
Why does this work? Well, it’s First Class. Who belongs in First Class – the guy in board shorts and flip flops or the woman in a nice blouse and slacks? If you said “board shorts, dude!” then we applaud your beach bum bravado, but you will be sitting in coach. Dude.
You don’t have to be dressed to the nines; you don’t even have to be wearing a suit and tie. Just dress nicely, presentably, as though the person who sits down next to you in First Class just could be the one to offer you a corner office. Or a Happily Ever After.
(Come to think of it, mom usually just said “You are not going out in public like that!”)
